Woman accused of smuggling drugs in holy book

Woman accused of smuggling drugs in holy book, Woman Smuggled Drugs Using Bible. A woman has been caught using a hollowed-out Bible to smuggle weapons and drugs into a prison.

According to AP News, deputies in South Carolina say the woman has used the holy book to pass on a cell phone - along with the weapons and drugs.


Shareca Latoya, 28, was investigated by authorities earlier this month after a package mailed to Lieber Correctional Institution was returned to a post office in Lancaster, says Sheriff Barry Faile.

The package contained two Bibles which were hollowed-out and had razor knives, a cell phone, ecstasy pills and over 29 grams of cocaine, AP has reported.

The woman was tracked and identified as the person who posted the package from a post office in Kershaw. Authorities also searched her car, which included a loaded handgun, drugs, cell phones and cash. Latoya is being charged for drugs and contraband and is currently released from jail on bond.
