Woman in coma using hair dye:Woman left in coma after using L’Oreal hair dye,There are fresh warnings about the risk of home hair dye kits after an English woman fell into a coma.

The product Julie McCabe was using is for sale in New Zealand and the ingredient suspected of causing her collapse is common in many hair dye products.

The 38-year-old woman has been left brain-damaged after apparently suffering a severe reaction while dyeing her hair, the BBC reported.

McCabe is on life support following the incident at her home on October 30.

McCabe was allegedly using a L'Oreal Preferences hair dye.

Her father Keith Miller told the BBC his daughter had dyed her hair regularly for several years and had used the L'Oreal product in the past.

"She dyed her hair. She couldn't breathe so we'd rushed her down to the hospital and her heart stopped during that journey.
"So they revived her in hospital but the damage had been done by then."

He believes the chemical para-phenylenediamine (PPD) in the product caused the reaction.

In a statement, the cosmetics company said: "L'Oreal was extremely concerned to hear about this serious situation.
