Optical Phenomena in Photos

Optical Phenomena in Photos

 Rainbow wall

A rare atmospheric phenomenon is known as "fire rainbow" horizontal refraction occurs when the sun rising or setting sun through a horizontally arranged ice crystals clouds. The result is a kind of wall, painted in different colors of the rainbow. Picture taken in the skies of Washington in 2006.

Halo

The sun's rays reflected off ice crystals at an angle 22 ° relative to the sun at high altitude clouds. Different positions of ice crystals can cause modification of the halo. In the cold days can be observed the effect of "diamond dust", in this case, many times the sun's rays reflected from the ice crystals.
Aircraft contrails

Aircraft exhaust and vortex flows at high altitudes make the ice particles in the water. Long white streaks in the sky is nothing like the water droplets that are suspended.
Twilight rays

Solar rays of the setting sun, passing through a gap in the clouds form a clearly visible, some beams of sunlight. Very often, these feed the sun's rays can be seen in various science fiction films. This photo was taken in one of Utah's national parks.
Northern lights

Northern Lights is nothing but a collision in the upper atmosphere, solar radiation and charged particles, gases Earth's magnetic field.
Star tracks

A clear demonstration of the Earth's rotation. This phenomenon unnoticed by the normal eye. To get a picture to put the camera on slow shutter speed. The picture shows only a single Polaris, located practically on the axis of the Earth, remains almost immovable.
white rainbow

Picture taken at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The small size of the air drops of water makes it impossible for the expansion of solar radiation on the spectrum of colors, so the rainbow in white only.
Light of the Buddha

This photo was taken in China. The phenomenon is similar to the "ghost Brokkena." The sun's rays are reflected from atmospheric water droplets over the sea, a shadow in the middle of the circle of the rainbow reflected beams - a shadow of the aircraft.
Upside-down rainbow

This unusual rainbow appears also as a result of the refraction of sunlight through ice crystals that are only in certain parts of the clouds.
Mirage

Very common atmospheric phenomenon. It may be observed not only in the desert, but also on the road in the sultry heat. This phenomenon is formed as a result of refraction of sunlight through the "lens" formed by layers of colder (at ground level) and warm (located above the air). This unique lens reflects the objects that are located above the horizon, in this case the sky. Picture taken in Thuringia (Germany).
Iridescent clouds

The rays of the setting sun at right angles "bump" in the cloud water droplets. As a result of diffraction (bending around the sun drops of water) and the interference of the sun's rays (solar radiation on the decomposition of the spectra), as in Photoshop, the figure is filled with clouds of the gradient fill.
Next rocket exhausts

Next on the Minotaur rocket, fired the U.S. Air Force in California. Air currents blowing at different altitudes at different rates, causing distortion of the rocket exhaust trail. Atmospheric water droplets, ice crystals melted also cause decomposition of sunlight on different colors of the rainbow.
Ghost Brokkena, Germany

This phenomenon is foggy in the morning. Prismatic solar disk appears opposite the sun, as a result reflect sunlight from the droplets of water mist. A curious triangular shadow, tearing iridescent disk of reflected sunlight nothing more than a projection of the upper surface of clouds.
Zodiacal light

Zodiacal light very often masks the moonlight and artificial light of cities. In a quiet moonless night on the nature of the likelihood that you will see the zodiacal light is high enough. This phenomenon is due to reflection of sunlight from cosmic dust particles surrounding the Earth.
