Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Numerous initiatives are aimed at raising awareness about the disease and the need for regular surveys, as well as raising funds for charitable projects, which aim - to make the diagnosis of advanced breast accessible to women.

The story begins in 1980. At this time, for the first time about breast cancer spoke aloud. It was promoted by former U.S. First Lady Betty Ford, who publicly spoke about his fight against breast cancer, speaking with his daughter Susan on the television show and called on all women undergo breast diagnostic time.

In September 2002, the company Avon has launched in Russia, a charity program "Together Against Breast Cancer." During the program in Russia by Avon has raised over 300 million rubles for the fight against breast cancer, carried out over 13 large-scale projects, surveyed more than 42 000 women.

Breast cancer - the most common malignancy in women, constituting about one in four cases of cancer. Every year in Russia 52 thousand women are affected with breast cancer, 22 thousand die. In terms of morbidity and mortality from breast cancer Russia is one of the first places in the world.


In 94% of cancer detected at an early stage can be cured completely, keep health and beauty of the patients. However, a high percentage of women applying for specialist advice in the later stages when the disease is more difficult to win.

Major trends identified by Russian scientists, is as follows: 88% of women know about the problem of breast cancer and the need for diagnosis, but to contact a specialist in the near future is not planned. Oncologists are advised to be tested once a year, but unfortunately, the majority of the respondents said they do not have time to visit the doctor. An even greater percentage of women - 37% - did not see the need for diagnosis until they do not care.

The main purpose of the charitable program Avon «Together Against Breast Cancer" is to reduce deaths of women from breast cancer. To achieve this goal, the program solves two main tasks: to inform people about having to go through regular surveys and stimulate breast screening programs.
